Viking Dress

Made in four days for Ren Faire. I looked up and used historical patterns for this outfit, but I didn't have time to order proper brooches for the apron dress straps so I had to fake it.

I also dyed both pieces myself. All this started as white fabric. The purple didn't turn out quite as red as I wanted, but it was only the second time I've mixed dyes and it required 4 colors to get that, so I think I did alright. I still did like the color very much. The blue I had already from another project & loved so much I HAD to use it again.

This was a bit of a harder project than I expected. The dress had to be fitted after it was cut because historical cutting lines (at least the ones we have examples of), don't seem to take being large busted into account.

Also, having to measure the pieces out by hand on fabric left room for error... Resulting in some of the gore pieces for the apron dress not wanting to match up and a tail end that needed to be cured when the hem was curved. I also had to put darts in the top of the apron dress due to being large busted and it gapping horribly above the bust line.

However I am definitely pleased with the end result here.
